Starting at Uley Playgroup

New families are welcome to visit the playgroup and collect a Welcome pack plus registration forms. Contact our Manager, Nicola Wood, on 07896587983 to arrange a day and time to suit you.

Settling in

  • New children will be invited to attend two taster sessions free of charge prior to starting at playgroup. We recommend that parents try to leave their child for part of the second visit.

  • Each child attending the playgroup will be allocated a key worker who will be introduced to you by the Manager. Your child’s Key worker will be responsible for liaising with you on a day-to-day basis and compiling your child’s online Learning Journey, progress reports, etc.

  • We know that all children do things at different rates, and in their own ways. So while some may settle into Playgroup very quickly and easily, others may take longer to feel secure. It may be the first time your child has been apart from you and your family, and we recognise that parents know their child best.

  • We want you as parents/carers to feel welcome to stay as long as you need, until you feel your child is familiar with being in a busy environment and feels safe and secure with us. Staff will work in partnership with you to leave your child for increasing amounts of time.

  • When you leave your child, staff will keep you informed of how your child is settling in. If your child is unhappy or upset for longer than 15 minutes they will contact you and suggest that you return.

  • All the staff are here to support you in separating from your child, and to support your child in separating from you. We understand how stressful it can be, so please do feel you can talk freely to the Manager or your Key Worker about anything you need to, as we want both you and your child’s memories at Uley Playgroup to be among the very happiest times in these precious early years!

For further details, please ask for our full Settling-in Policy.
